Bicycle Safety

When buying a new bicycle, the following should be considered:

The bicycle must :

• Be of sound construction.

• Have front, side, rear and pedal reflectors fitted.

• Be free from sharp edges and projections.

• Have an effective braking system.

• Be marked with maximum height marks for saddle and handlebars.

• Be marked with B.S. 6102 and with the manufacturer's, UK distributors or UK retailers name.

Note - certain bicycles are exempt including:

• Competition bicycles

• Tandems

• Pavement cycles
