Straying Dogs

Report a Straying Dog.(Complaint Form)

Straying can lead to all kinds of problems such as fouling and attacks .

The procedures taken by the Enforcement Officer are:

  • Where a dog is reported or observed as being straying, a warning letter is sent to the dog owner
  • On a second offence, if observed by the Enforcement Officer or if a written statement is provided by a member of the public, a fixed penalty notice of £10 is issued.
  • Subsequent offences are dealt with by Court action.
  • Straying dogs may also be impounded and the owners are currently charged a kennel fee of £20 plus an extra £10 per night to reclaim their dog.
  • Stray dogs are kept for a minimum of 6 days. After this time they may be re-homed or humanely destroyed.
