Food Safety Introduction

The Environmental Health Department undertakes the Food Control Service function on behalf of Cookstown District Council. This service aims to protect consumers from infection and ill-health arising from the consumption of food and drink, and as such impacts on every aspect of the life of the general public.

The Department provides this service through:

(1) The delivery of planned programmes of inspection of retail and manufacturing food businesses;

(2) Investigation of complaints in relation to poor or unsatisfactory food quality; and

(3) The promotion and raising awareness of food safety and food related health issues, through the provision of training and associated activities.
