Cookstown District Council
Town Centre Regeneration
Cookstown town centre is one of the key economic jewels in the District’s crown. It is the key commercial and service sector for much of Mid Ulster and has largely built its reputation over the years as a market town with a wide range of small independent shops, however, in more recent years it has seen the introduction of a selected number of multiples, to offer customers further variety and choice.
Vision
Following an extensive consultation process spearheaded by Cookstown District Council and Cookstown Town Centre Forum, all the various town centre stakeholders contributed to the recently launched Cookstown Town Centre Regeneration Strategy. The Strategy unveiled six key programmes and 36 actions to further vitalise and reinvigorate the town centre over the next ten years (2002-2012).
“In 2012 Cookstown will be the capital town of Mid-Ulster and the town centre will be a distinctive mixed use place. The town centre will be a hub of enterprise with a number of new start-up businesses and a variety of retail outlets that includes independents, multiples and a revitalised Saturday market. The town centre will provide an excellent choice of retail, business and residential property, combined with a strong service sector. Town centre businesses will have a reputation for providing excellent service and the town centre will offer a shopping friendly environment”.
