Cookstown Town Centre is one of the key economic jewels in the District’s crown. Cookstown is renowned for its long and wide thoroughfare and is widely recognised as the "Retail Capital of Mid Ulster". It is the key commercial and service sector for much of Mid Ulster and has largely built its reputation over the years as a market town with a wide range of small independent shops, however, in more recent years it has seen the introduction of a selected number of multiples, to offer customers further variety and choice.
Cookstown Town Centre Regeneration Strategy & Action Plan focuses on the rejuvenation and revitalisation of Cookstown Town centre by 2012. The Strategy identified six key programmes and 36 actions to further vitalise and reinvigorate the town centre.
“In 2012 Cookstown will be the capital town of Mid-Ulster and the town centre will be a distinctive mixed use place. The town centre will be a hub of enterprise with a number of new start-up businesses and a variety of retail outlets that includes independents, multiples and a revitalised Saturday market. The town centre will provide an excellent choice of retail, business and residential property, combined with a strong service sector. Town centre businesses will have a reputation for providing excellent service and the town centre will offer a shopping friendly environment”.
