Look Out For Spring & Summer at Burnavon

Now that summer time has officially clocked in, the Burnavon Arts & Cultural Centre Cookstown has just released its Spring & Summer Programme for those on the look out for more arts activities and entertainment during the brighter, longer days and evenings ahead. The new arts programme is packed full with children’s theatre, music, drama, workshops and exhibitions providing no excuses for young and old to get out and take part in Spring & Summer time events and performances.
Children’s Theatre
Keep the children entertained this spring & summer and let them experience the magic of theatre by choosing from the range of Burnavon family shows on offer.Humpty Dumpty and The Big Book of Nursery Rhymes on Thursday 1st May at 7pm will take children on a spectacular journey of all their favourite nursery rhymes whilst the popular bedtime story The Snail & The Whale will be recreated on the Burnavon stage on Saturday 10th May.For parents who have exhausted all the activities at the end of summer and are seeking a day out with a difference, the Singing Kettle are back at the Burnavon with their exhilarating production of Pirate Island, a treasure trove of fun and thrilling sing-along theatrical voyage setting sail on Friday 22nd August.
Music Events
For those who didn’t manage to get tickets for Tommy Fleming this weekend, there are still a wide range of top quality artists and music gigs to attend in the Spring and Summer season, including acclaimed Irish contemporary folk singer, Eleanor McEvoy, Donegal’s latest country sensation, Deirdre Bonner, The Wolfe Tones 45th Anniversary Concert as well as a musical tribute to the hits and life of the 70s Pop Duet, The Carpenters.A unique Ulster Scots and Irish music event also appears on the Burnavon stage on Thursday 10th July for the July Celebrations Concert with Kintra, an exciting new group of 12 vibrant musicians, singers and dancers performing contemporary aspects to traditional music.
Ballet
For those who can’t wait to Christmas for their ballet fix, Ballet Ireland is back at the Burnavon on 7th May with a Ballet Extravaganza presenting their latest groundbreaking programme including 4 new ballets and an innovative swing, jazz and big band inspired ballet piece.
Drama
Two hilarious comedy drama’s will also be performed at the Burnavon this spring and summer with local amateur dramatic group, Derrtresk, performing their top selling‘A Wake In The West’ play and the Belvoir Players return with a Sam Cree classic, Widow’s Paradise.
Workshops
Summer workshops are a great way to keep children entertained as well as learning new skills and abilities.This year, the Burnavon has Ballet Workshops developing skills in performance techniques, style, confidence and self expression whilst the Making Music Workshops will provide teenagers with a musical interest the chance to learn about contemporary rock and pop music with the people who make it.
Exhibitions
A range of free to view visual art will also be on display on the Burnavon’s first floor from a variety of local artists including local photographer, Norman Bell, local charities Arts Care and Magherafelt Young At Heart as well as a one-off exhibition examining best practice in N.I school design and education architecture.
