Under the current legislation (The Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland Order 1985) the Council is required to administer the Regulations covering the establishment and operation of Public Lotteries.

Public Lotteries are those schemes whereby tickets are sold to the general public, to enable a registered Society to generate income for their respective cause.
Private Lotteries are lotteries which are established within a private club and where the tickets are sold solely to the members of that organisation. This form of lottery does not require to be registered with the District Council.
