Blue bins have been provided to all areas across the district for the collection of dry- recyclables - cardboard, paper, plastic bottles and metal cans which are placed into your blue bin and are then taken to a material recovery facility where they are separated and sent for recycling.
45 tonnes of recyclable materials are collected from blue bins each week helping to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfill sites. Please ensure only the correct items are placed into your blue bin.
All containers should be washed out. Blue bins contaminated with unsuitable waste will NOT be emptied.
BLUE RECYCLING BINS WHICH WERE ISSUED BEFORE 1st NOVEMBER 2009 SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THAT ADDRESS WHEN MOVING FROM OR VACATING THE PREMISES.
Brown bins are now in use through several built-up areas of the district including:
The Brown Bin is for food & garden waste. Food waste can include meat, fish and bones, cooked and uncooked food and dairy products. The Brown Bin is collected fortnightly.
To reduce odour, wrap food waste in a sheet of newspaper (please do not use liners or plastic bags). When the bin is empty put one or two sheets of newspaper in the bottom to soak up any liquids. The bin should occasionally be rinsed out using disinfectant.
Materials not suitable for composting should NOT be placed into your brown bin. Brown bins contaminated with unsuitable waste will NOT be emptied.
If your Brown Bin is too heavy for you to wheel to a collection point
then it is too heavy for our staff to put on the bin lift.
BROWN BINS ARE ISSUED TO EACH HOUSE AND SHOULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THAT ADDRESS WHEN VACATING OR MOVING FROM THE PROPERTY.
