Refuse Collection

The services provided to the householder includes an alternate black bin collection of household waste and blue bin collection of dry-recyclables. Please note that Council policy is:

 

"Only one 240 litre wheeled bin container will be emptied from each domestic residence save in exceptional circumstances where eight or more persons live in the property; in which case a second 240 litre or one 360 litre container will be emptied". 

 

Brown bin collections (garden waste) are made every fortnight during April to October and monthly from November to March.  Please refer to annual calendars issued to every household in the Cookstown District for your bin collection dates.  Should you move to a new dwelling please contact the Operational Services Department (028 8676 2205) for a calendar to be issued to you.   A 'Back Door' collection to help the elderly, those living alone or less abled is available upon request where possible.  A questionnaire must be completed and evidence of medical cause is required. Please telephone the Operational Services Department  on 028 8676 2205 to request an application form. 



Bulky Household Furniture items can be collected from households in the District; this includes items such as cookers, fridges, carpets, suites of furniture etc. 

 

From 1st April 2011 one free collection will be available to each household per calendar year, for each subsequent collection there will be a charge of £10 which must be paid prior to the collection being made.  Payment can be made in person at the Council Offices, by telephone or by cheque via post or online.

 

The Council do not remove items which are considered to be fixtures and fittings of the house eg. bathroom suites, oil tanks, garage/internal/external doors. These items can be disposed of free of charge at either of the Civic Amenity Sites (Cookstown or Moneymore).
