Department of Social Development Local Community Fund
Purpose:
The Local Community Fund was established to develop greater community capacity and leadership in local areas suffering high levels of disadvantage where community infrastructure is weak. The Fund provides local people with the opportunity and funding to become involved in identifying and addressing issues and priorities, which have the potential to make a noticeable difference in their local areas.
Objectives:
Five specific objectives for the Fund are as follows:
- to develop community capacity and leadership;
- to promote partnership working, within and between communities;
- to help communities improve their local environments;
- to develop intervention programmes with young people; and
- to encourage more active participation by previously excluded groups in local community services.
Criteria:
Local Community Fund targets those Super Output areas (wards) within the 11%-20% most deprived communities as defined by Noble 2005. The wards identified in the Cookstown District are Ardboe and Dunamore.
Current Status
£35,259 in total has been awarded to the two wards for the current financial year 2009/2010.We are currently carrying out public consultation for this programme.

£71,411 was the total awarded to the two areas in the financial year 2008/2009
