Course - Class Information
Spinning
The spinning program has been designed to help boost the fitness of people of all ages and fitness levels. For those of you who have never taken a spinning class before special bikes are used in an exercise studio or gym. These bikes look very similar to an ordinary bicycle however they are stationary and a lever adjusts the tension of the wheels which gives the effect of riding up and downhill. Spinning classes are normally 30 minutes to 60 minutes in length and a towel and water bottle will be needed!
Dance Fit
This is an exciting, healthy and motivating way to get in shape and stay fit. Each class includes a warm up, cardio dance (including Salsa, Jive and Hip Hop), cool down period and floor exercises focusing on abs, legs, buttocks and thighs and ends with a relaxing stretch. As Dance Fit is non competitive each class can accommodate various age ranges and fitness levels, allowing participants to progress at their own speed.
60+ Fitness
These classes are ideal for our more mature members seeking a lower impact yet challenging exercise session. Designed with more specific exercise needs classes range from Gentle Circuit Training to Exercise to Music.
Aerobics
Designed to give you an enjoyable and challenging workout varying between high and low impact exercises set to different choreography, this class will give your cardiovascular system a great workout and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
Aqua Fit
A safe and effective cardiovascular and body toning workout in the pool with exercises for the upper and lower body. These classes provide a safe supported workout and are particularly suitable for those new to exercise and those with joint problems.
Circuit Training
These classes combine cardio and strength training and are suitable for all fitness levels as you are free to work at your own pace. The instructor will take you through a variety of strength, cardio and flexibiltiy stations.
Pilates
These classes focus on core stability and posture with the aim of lengthening and strengthening muscles. Pilates increases flexibility, agility, builds strength and is a challenging workout. There are three levels of class available - beginners, intermediate and advanced.
Yoga
If you are seeking a mental and physical workout this may be the class for you. Yoga can increase flexibilty, tone and strengthen muscles, improve breathing, provide pain prevention for exisiting physical conditions, provide stress reduction and mental calmness.
Dance Kids
Fun and exciting Ballet classes for children. Your children can learn great dance routines, make new friends, gets lots of exercise, develop confidence and memory skills while learning the technique of ballet dance. Progress is awarded with Certificates at the end of the course when a special showcase for mums and dads will display all your children’s new dance skills. Dancing is a popular activity which everyone can enjoy.
Mini Soccer
The general aim of Mini Soccer is to provide a safe and supportive environment for young players to be introduced to the game so that they can develop and reap all the benefits that playing soccer has to offer. Children learn more when a game is simple, there are limited numbers participating and there is an element of fun. Mini Soccer is an ideal game for boys and girls aged 7 - 11. In order for children to have fun and learn they should:
- Take an active part, whatever their ability, in a game and have fun without pressure from parents, coaches and other players;
- Learn to play within a team;
- Understand and observe the rules, respecting all decisions;
- Learn good techniques that can be developed into skills; and
- Have plenty of opportunity to get hold of a ball.
At Cookstown Leisure Centre we believe that children should be coached how to compete fairly, skilfully, within the spirit of the game and show respect for all those involved. Winning is not the most important factor at these developmental stages, showing effort, determination and a positive attitude is.
After Schools Activity Club
The After Schools Activity Club will offer a wide range of fun and healthy activities for 8 - 11 year olds to take part in. Our experienced staff will provide an exciting programme of activities throughout the Autumn Term. The activities will range from dodge-ball, dance mats, ten pin bowling, play shack, treasure hunts, swimming and many more. If you want your children to have fun, make new friends and get active why not bring them along to the After Schools Club and let them take part in the wide range of activities on offer.
