Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a bin?

Household bins (black  & blue 240 Litre) can be purchased from the Council at a price of £25.00 each if collected from the Council Offices or £31.00 if delivered to your home (payment must be made before delivery can be arranged).

There are no concessions or reductions in price for anyone in receipt of Benefits or of pensionable age. NIHE tenants should contact the Housing Executive.

I have left bin bags out with my bin but they weren't collected - why?

Council Policy states that ‘refuse not contained in wheeled bins, ie. bags, boxes etc. will not be collected by the Refuse Squad’. Additional refuse can be taken to Cookstown Civic Amenity Site, Molesworth Road, Cookstown or Moneymore Civic Amenity Site, Moneyhaw Road, Moneymore and disposed of free of charge.

I have items of furniture for disposal - does the council provide a service for this?

Council provides a free service to all householders for the removal of special bulky household waste eg. cookers, fridges, carpets, suites of furniture etc.

Council do not remove items which are considered to be fixtures and fittings of a house eg. bathroom suites, oil tanks, garage/internal/external doors. These items can be disposed of free of charge at either of the Civic Amenity Sites (Cookstown or Moneymore).
