Cookstown District Council
What to do
Cookstown was founded as a market town in 1628 by Dr Allen Cooke and is famous for its longest and widest street in Ireland.
Over the last thirty years, Cookstown has been the engine for growth in the District, increasing in population by more than 35% and acting as the District’s main industrial, commercial and employment base. Cookstown lies at the geographic heart of the District and acts as the key retail sector for much of Mid Ulster. The town offers a fabulous choice of shopping with exceptional independent shops side by side with famous high street names and of course its very own unique Saturday market, located on the main street, offering any visitor an impressive choice of shopping.
Cookstown brings you the best of all worlds. It’s the centre to visit for sights, for entertainment and being entertained and offers miles of great shopping. Experience Cookstown for yourself and we think you’ll agree – Cookstown is not just ‘Looking Good, it’s Looking Great’.
