Cookstown District offers the ideal location for fishing, with many prime locations throughout the district. The Ballinderry river flows east through Cookstown and into Lough Neagh. The river is regarded by anglers as one of the best trout rivers in Ulster as well as being good for salmon and dollaghan. Anglers can also enjoy Lough Fea, a linear expanse of water covering 180 acres , situated five miles north of Cookstown. Cookstown District lies along the shores of Lough Neagh, the largest lake in the British Isles covering an area of 153 square miles. In order to fish on any of the waters in the district it is essential to have a rod licence. For club waters a permit will also be required which can be obtained from the specific club.
Angling waters in County Tyrone which are part of the Public Angling Estate are now listed on the nidirect website. You can find practical information on a wide range of fishing waters including Lough Macronan, Brantry Lough, Lough Braden and Lough Lee.
